Whenever I travel with my family, my dad takes a picture of us at every meal. Whether it is breakfast at a hotel, a fancy dinner, or a snack on the street, he takes a photo. It has gotten to the point where we don’t even look up and smile as he takes a picture. Although my whole family makes fun of his obsessive picture taking, I think his interest in how food brought my family together sparked the same interest in me.

If you scroll through my phone, most of my images are food. Not only is food essential for life, it is an essential part of my most fond memories. Food is a way to bring people together. It is a way to reconnect with new and old friends and family. And that is why I am so interested in capturing food in my photographs- it creates a memory that is more than just a memory, it creates a sensory experience.

In my photos you will see below, you will see how each photo captures something important in my life- a birthday party, spending time with my mom, a family trip. These images bring me back to these times and memories through something as simple as a sandwich.

Just like my dad, I realize the power food has on people. And that is one reason I believe photography is so important in the world. It captures interactions, emotions, feelings, and memories in a way no other art form can.
